I enjoy the mezan rums very much but not this one! Such an overpowering plastic and burned rubber taste, try one of the other mezan rums they are all winners.
Ignore the colour. This rum has bags of flavour. From the minute you unscrew the cap it smells like mashed bananas and the palate is plasticy, with rich banana, nut and a hint of molasses.
The colour really disguises the quality this rum has. This is no ordinary golden rum. It has to be tried to be believed.
Nothing else like it in this price range. If it is aged for so long why has it so little colour? What wood is it aged in? Special offers, recommendations and expert advice to your inbox!

Established in , Marussia Beverages import and distribute a fantastic array of spirits. Starting over 30 years ago with Cognac, Armagnac and Calvados they now boast a range that includes many gins, bourbons, sake, vodka, sherry and rum!
Our host for the evening was Mr. Philip Wilson, brand manager for Marussia. Our collective jaws hit the floor when we walked in because this truly is an office like no other.
Desk to one side, a few boxes on the other, a large conference style table in the middle and a bar at the back!
Here stood a true library of spirits. Who is the producer, why is he or she distilling this spirit and how are they doing it?
The mantra is organic and true and the company has grown from roughly half a dozen people 10 years ago to more than 40 today.
Neither can match the reach or popularity of Appleton Estate. Jamaican rum is produced in such a traditional and well-regulated manner, not too mention the wonderful tropical climate that these producers would have to be doing something truly awful to be producing a bad rum.
For those un accustomed to such rums this may not immediately appeal. For those, like myself who know how well such rums work in mixed drinks and as occasional sippers it will be a welcome and familiar aroma.
I can detect some oak and woody notes, quite a lot of spice. Taste is less sweet than expected based on the aroma. Very light body, very smooth, no burn.
Quite a lot of oak, you can taste this has some age. Finish is quite dry and medium long. All in all I'd have preferred a slightly fuller body and some bolder flavours, but this is a very pleasant effort nonetheless by an sympathetic brand.

Lots of ripe banana and just a hint of grassyness. Smells like maybe overripe pineapple or banana skin. No added color, no Carmel, more rums need to be honest about the real color from aging and added color.

I find this more like a fine brandy than a rum it's fruity, floral and fresh. It's mezans way of untouched rum you can see that on the colour it's pale strawish with a grassy fresh aroma.
But it mixes well with fruit juice rather than cola. Posted over 2 years ago by Samurdavidov from Latvia with 60 ratings. Posted almost 3 years ago by Martin Kennedy from Australia with ratings.
I try and alternate between sweet , spiced and real rum. This is real rum , light in colour , no sugar or other additives. Not as funky on the nose as I expected , left in the glass for 10 minutes , I found banana , pineapple plus a bit of vanilla.
The rums in this small batch have been aged twice in separate sets of white oak American Bourbon casks, to give added structure to the spirit.

This small batch of bottles was carefully blended from rums produced by several different Jamaican distilleries. Diamond typically produce medium-to-heavy Demerara style rum and this offering from Mezan is no exception. I can detect some oak and woody notes, quite a lot of spice. You see Mezan rum is but one of many brands owned and distributed by Marussia Beverages formerly Eaux de Vie. Yes indeed, banana comes through really strongly on the nose and back of the tongue, but some subtle spicier after-taste too. You get more of the notes that were in the nose.
